DIY Sushi Costume

For my work Halloween party I decided to dress up as a Nigiri Sushi. The Halloween party was on Friday, October 19 and was hosted by the Brand Development Department (mine). It was also where we debuted our Holiday Campaign to the whole company. I saw the invite come thru and I immediately though "who really dresses up?" "My halloween costumes are NSFW (not suitable for work.)" and "people will think I'm a crackhead for dressing up 1.5 weeks early" Come to find dressing up is a big deal at Charming Charlie. In additon, come Monday at our weekly team meeting, my VP "encouraged" us to dress up especially since we're suppose to be the "fun" department and we are hosting it. I didn't want to seem like a non-participatory person so I scrambled last minute to think up a suitable, cheap, easy costume.

At the Halloween Party, an employee who DJs on the side was spinning hip hop. There was a keg, wine, and champagne. The company sure knows how to have fun. The DJ played Wobble.... combine that with a glass of wine and you have a piece of Sushi doing the wobble with a group of employees. I bet you never expected nigiri sushi to wobble now did ya?! ey sushi make em back it up!

How to make the Nigiri Sushi Costume:

Salmon

I got a decorative pillow from Walmart and a salmon colored pillow case. I wrapped the pillow case and glued the excess to the back with E6000 Craft Adhesive. Thank god for that stuff cause I can't sew worth my life. I got some white satin ribbon and glued them diagonally onto the pillow.

Wasabi & Ginger Hair Piece

I got this hair barrette and some lime green and salmon colored felt from Michael's

I cut a flower shape from the green felt

I folded and glued the green felt into a bulb shape. I cut up the salmon felt into 1'' strips and folded them and glued over each other. There's no wrong way to do this, it's just a pile of ginger. Then I glued both pieces onto the black hair piece (because my hair is black).

Then to put it all together, I wore a bright white tank top and black skirt. I got seaweed looking black ribbon and glued it down to the pillow and wrapped it around my back. I tied my hair up into a bun and stuck chopsticks in them. Then I finished off with the wasabi/ginger hairpiece. There you go, a unique, easy to make costume for less than $20!
