Name is Erica, nicknamed chungry from endearing friends for my love for food.

In my family... I'm Wife to Emmanuel (Chungry Hubby). Mother to Emma (Chungry Baby). Daughter to Hoa & Thanh. Granddaughter to Xiem Ly, Huynh Thanh Dieu, Tu Lien Huu, and Chung To.

My grandparents and parents immigrated from Vietnam and are of Chinese heritage. Thus, growing up we would eat many delicious scratch-made Vietnamese, Chinese, & Vietnamese/Chinese fusion cuisine. My grandma Xiem Ly was a businesswoman in Vietnam who ran a successful noodle shop. People loved her noodle soups. I was particularly fond of her eggrolls. When grandma Xiem Ly passed away in 2017, her delicious recipes passed with her.

Started in 2008, Chungry Mama started as the musings of a college student to the soul searching of a post-grad, and most recently a short-live attempt at a Houston Food Blog. I could never find a direction for this blog but knew I couldn't let it go.

I had my daughter, Emma, in 2019 and moved in with my parents for child-care to immerse in extended family living that is so prominent in Chinese culture. Moving back in with my parents meant re-living and enjoying many childhood meals made by mama Chung. Then, the purpose of this blog came to me. This will be our family's culinary genealogy blog where I will document our family's recipes and recipes I hope to become part of Emma's childhood with a sprinkle of motherhood. A blog for my children so that their grandma Hoa's and my recipes can live on.
